This is as much romance as erotica, explicit but nicely airbrushed. David and Jenny meet in Jamaica, each escaping to ponder life for a while following failed relationships and change-of-career decisions.David’s writing a novel. Jenny is lodging in the lovely cottage of her BFF Julie, married to Jenny’s cousin Clive, a businessman. Their cottages are both on Clive’s property - and right next to a nude beach and swinger resort.It takes Jenny a while to get up the nerve to break the ice with David; it turns out he’s in the same boat. Jenny’s hot enough that men don’t approach her, figuring they don’t stand a chance, and that’s exactly how David sees her. And he’s not a player, despite being pretty gorgeous himself from Jenny’s perspective.There’s a nice change of pace here - our two shy love-at-first-sight folks having their first encounter on a nude beach. It doesn’t take them long to realize there’s real chemistry, not just an “Island Fever” vacation fling fueled by the anything-goes environment.We readers can identify with them because, the tropical swinger setting aside, neither is very wild, each wants a real relationship and enters this new one seriously, and neither fools around with anyone else, despite opportunities. Neither gets over the newness of being at a nude beach.A good love story, of course, needs a complication. Since you can smell the HEA here from a mile away, Stone goes on a bit too long with the two crossing wires, each thinking the other is blowing them off.And their sex, once they FINALLY have it, is fairly vanilla and perfunctory. Come on, man, they’ve spent a week around nude swingers and are nuts about each other. David is a bit too idealized of a man for me. This is more a female fantasy than a male one. (The latter would involve our couple, once reunited, spending at least one more evening at the swinger resort.) (Although I appreciate its anti-feminist fantasy of having our heroine walk away from her high-power low-fulfillment law career with its ninety hour weeks.)Otherwise, I appreciate Stone’s smooth, well-edited text. Makes it easier for you to get lost in this and make your own escape to match the carefree tropical setting. I debated knocking off a star for the not-quite-fulfilled erotic side of things, but gave it the benefit of the doubt based on its writing and its length. E for effort.
